Hi! I’m Christie. Welcome to The Butterfly Editions, where I write about my experiences travelling the world.
I grew up in Nelson, New Zealand but have lived all over the show in my beautiful home country – yup, I’m a proud Kiwi! I completed my business degree in Wellington, worked in Advertising in Auckland, then – insert three month backpacking interlude – followed my heart to Christchurch where I worked in Marketing and fell in love with my other half, Alan.
For as long as I can remember, travel has been a dream – I love to explore new places, try new foods and learn about different cultures & ways of life. I am blessed to have grown up in a family that loves to travel, and I credit my parents for infecting me with the travel bug as a kid. In my twenty-five years of life so far I have been lucky enough to explore more than 20 countries – sometimes with friends, sometimes with family, and sometimes on my own. I’m always thinking about where I want to go next!
I’m currently travelling through Asia with Alan, who I am lucky shares a similar curiosity of the world to me. We bought a one-way ticket, packed up our home in Christchurch and left our jobs, before departing on our current, indefinite adventure in August 2014.
Though I travel on a budget and with the simplicity of a backpack, I don’t like to label myself as a backpacker. Rather, I like the term ‘value traveller’ – I am trying to make my money go as far as I can most of the time, but am perfectly happy to splurge on somewhere fancy occasionally. In fact, in the last six months of travel we have stayed in all types of accommodation from 1 star guesthouses right through to 4 and 5 star luxury hotels. I am proving that you don’t need to be rich to travel comfortably! A little bit of everything is what works for me.
The Butterfly Editions was born in January 2014, before I even knew that I would be living my dream of travelling the world this soon. The symbolism of the butterfly inspired the name for this blog – transition, change, soul – each of these words has so much significance to my writing and my travelling lifestyle.
